Dallas Mavericks beat the San Antonio Spurs taking game 7 in San Antonio 119 - 111 in overtime. This may well be the best NBA series ever. Who knows it may be the best series in any sport. It was intense. It was back and fourth. It was a team trying to beat its nemesis of many years.
It was two teams going at it for 7 games. Even loudmouth Mark Cuban talked trash about San Antonio’s riverwalk and the fans of San Antonio. Everyone knows San Antonio fans are some of the best and classiest in the country. Yet, Mark Cuban had to add suspense. It included a punch to the groin, Tim Duncan setting personal playoff records. Dirk Nowitzki hitting every fade away shot under some of the best defense of Bruce Bowen.
This series was intense. If these two teams played 20 games they would end 10-10, with two very worn out teams.
If you missed it, you surely missed one of the best series if not the best series ever.

Dirk’s Shot At Superstardom
Nowitzki has advanced his reputation around the league, moving in the direction of two-time MVP Tim Duncan. It’s not there yet. And if his team loses and Duncan outplays him, then skeptics again will have their day questioning whether the Mavericks can win building a team around Nowitzki. Nowitzki knows that (more…)
Bowen Adds To Dallas’ Frustration
As Bruce Bowen walked off the court moments after Friday’s 91-86 victory over Dallas in Game 6, his path took him right past Mark Cuban. When he got within earshot of the Mavericks’ feisty owner, Bowen was startled when Cuban swore at him, a coarse, two-word curse whose meaning was unmistakable. Bowen said he was too startled to respond. On reflection, he considers it (more…)
Robert Horry (San Antonio Spurs) played in his 209th playoff game on Wednesday, moving past Scottie Pippen into second place on the playoff-games played list.
Only Hall of Fame center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar played more playoff games, clocking in at 237.
Quite an amazing accomplishment. We hope to see Big Shot Bob come through with an amazing shot once again!
Mark Cuban emailed back and forth with San Antonio writers on Thursday and the hype machine is churning in Dallas, after Jason Terry was suspended for “punching” Michael Finley in the “groin area” at the end of Game 5.
“Unbelievable,” Cuban said. “When it’s all said and done, this series could end up being talked about for all the wrong reasons. I guess the Spurs have perfected this tactic.” There is not a lot of love between the Mavericks and Spurs and tonight’s game should be another classic.
The Spurs are known as one of if not the cleanest and least trash talking team in the NBA. Their fans are equally well known for their sportsmanship and fair treatment of refs and other team’s players. Unlike Dirk who called for fans to boo Finley, who was one of the best players Dallas has ever had.

Jason Terry has been suspended for Friday’s Game 6 against the Spurs after reportedly punching ex-teammate Michael Finley in the groin during the closing seconds of Game 5 as the two went after a loose ball.
While this is potentially devastating news for the Mavericks, it could be worse. They at least have a great second point guard in Devin Harris, and Dirk Nowitzki will be playing in the game. Expect a big night from Josh Howard and an increased role for Marquis Daniels as the Mavericks will try to find a way to make up for the loss of one of their most effective players in this series.
No low blows allowed.
Elton Brand had 30 points, 12 boards and 5 blocks in Thursday’s win over the Suns.
The series finale isn’t until Monday night in Phoenix, so both teams will be well rested coming in. Brand hit 14-of-21 shots and played like an all-star, as the Clippers dominated the glass, 48-28 tonight.
