Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig has decided after a lot of prodding from the public and anyone else that has an opinion, to conduct an investigation into Barry Bonds steroid use in the game. The question has to really be asked as to whether anything can reasonably be accomplished and is any publicity really good publicity when your opening game of the season is ready to be played on Sunday? George Mason University pulled off one of the biggest wins in NCAA tournament history when they defeated heavily favored University of Connecticut 86-84 in overtime to join UCLA, LSU and Florida into the ‘Final Four’ next Saturday. Florida defeated # seeded Villanova 75-62 on Sunday to fill the last slot of the tournament next weekend. When the NCAA basketball field is paired down to 8 teams after Friday Night, we’ll be guaranteed that at least one of those pre-tournament selection teams that no one thought should get in will still be dancing through the night. Talent will always be recognized whether you play at USC or the smallest school in the country. (more…)
Add the USA baseball team with their 3-3 record in the newly founded World Baseball Classic as the latest disappointment in international competition. The United States is no longer feared in basketball and the hockey team played competitively in the 2006 Olympics, nonetheless, defeated soundly. The biggest surprise to demonstrate our fall in grace is that the US soccer team is actually ranked #5 in the world now for the World Championships. Things are so bad now that you have to wonder if we’ll introduce ‘American’ football as a worldwide competition to finally win in something and we’ve already done that with snowboarding events in the Winter Olympics.
