The U.S. Olympic Committee submitted its final roster for the Turin Olympics, a list of 211 athletes including Bode Miller, Jeremy Bloom, Michelle Kwan and Apolo Anton Ohno.
Of the 211, 85 of those competed in the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City, and 40 of those helped the United States set a record with 34 medals.
One of the athletes, Sarah Konrad, is competing in two sports, biathlon and cross country. She is the first American woman to qualify for two sports at a Winter Olympics.
The Olympics begin next Friday with opening ceremonies.
Kobe Bryant appeared Monday night on Stephen A. Smith’s sports talk show on ESPN2 to give his opinion on an array of subjects and I was pleasantly surprised. It appeared early this would be another politically correct interview with Bryant, but he finally warmed up and seemed to give some honest answers.
Kobe discussed his feelings on (more…)

There’s a movement afoot in the Latin American baseball community to get major league baseball to retire the most popular Latin player ever, Roberto Clemente’s, number 21. This brings up an interesting question of if Roberto Clemente gets his number 21 retired, who else in baseball’s glorious history, should also have their number retired. To date, only Jackie Robinson’s #42 is a retired number in the sport.
Major League Baseball retired Robinson’s number 42 because of his momentous role in breaking the color barrier, which had stood for many years as a gentleman’s agreement between the owners to not let black American players participate with the white players. It’s thought that Moses Fleetwood Walker was the first black American to play in the major leagues, but Robinson broke that barrier during a time when there was much racial prejudice and he endured a terrible beating mentally from fans and players alike that wanted to keep the races separate and not give black people a chance to (more…)
The trade was a done deal, then it hit a snag. The snag you guessed it, Artest. Artest purchased a house in Southern California, so like CrimsonLight Sports Blog said all along, he is 80% change going to the Lakers, with Phil Jackson fighting hard for him.
Kobe thinks he can play with anyone and lead anyone, and this of course brings something the Lakers need. it will bring a spark, and So Cal loves a spark. This will put the Lakers at least in the 6th spot.
Now the Kings are putting on a last dithc effort to see if they can make this work, but Artest behind the scenes is fighting hard to play with Kobe and Phil.
So watch for a Lakers announcement if the Kings cna not pull it out late Tuesday or Wednesday morning.
** Update **
Artest to the Kings for Peja Stojakovic. Not completely official and announced, but like CrimsonLight said yesterday, it is a done deal.
Great deal for the Kings, and ok for the Pacers considering Artest isn’t playing for them anymore. Artest is a Top 10 player so ultimately if the King’s can control him they got the better end of the deal.
The Ron Artest Trade is a done deal. The Artest trade will be announced shortly.
The Lakers, Kings, and Celtics were all in the running with even Phil Jackson gunning for him.
This trade will be announced soon.

Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers scored 81 points the other night against the Toronto Raptors. This is the second highest point total from any one player in a single game. This of course is amazing, and we knew that Kobe was capable of doing this. Does this make him the MVP or even MVP caliber at this time in the season?
Of course not. A MVP helps his team mates improve. He is there day in and day out for his team. While Kobe wants to get into the playoffs to prove that he can do it without Shaq, he is a selfish player.
Has Kobe taken the reigns from Michael Jordan as the leader of the NBA? Once again the answer is, of course not. Jordan was a leader; he led his team and the entire league. Kobe can throw up 40 - 50 shots a game, while his team sits in mediocrity. Jordan got rings as the leader; Kobe got rings along side Shaq. Kobe has yet to tale the Michael Jordan reigns.
Kobe is selfish, He is all about him. In fact, if he would pass the ball more and spread the offense around, then play some better defense, his Lakers would have a couple of more wins and actually be ahead of the Clippers. Yep, that is right, Kobe needs to play to win, not play for himself.
Kobe has a bright future, but his fingers will have more gold if he can be a team player and not a one man show.
